Greetings to you from the slowest internet in the world, which is located in Bayonnais,Haiti!
Well, since the 12th of January, nobody has truly truly been able to to tell how they feel. Yet, everyday has been seen as an opportunity and to do as much as can in to to make God's kingdom move forward in Gonaives and Bayonnais as well.
Trauma has been the leading guy in this society. Earthquake has become a new vivid word in our culture and the flavor or the taste of it is so strongly terrible that we are all wondering if we will ever get over that kind of feeling.
The so called Haitian survivors can not produce anymore. We call them " SO CALLED SURVIVORS" because psychologically speaking all Haitians living in Haiti have been upsidedown since the 12th of January 2010. Even though they pretend to be fine, we believe that some strong and deep Psycho-Therapy is needed for those so called survivors.
The OFCB's school campus has been as quiet as a cemetary since last thursday afternoon when our 8th graders A section heard an earthquake coming and they started jumping to the ground from the second floor and the other classes would follow that first class to start jumping. By God's grace, no death cases have been registered, but several 12th and 11th graders were injured. That earthquake was just Mrs. Venette, our kindergarten manager closing a door, which made some noise. So, big Panic.
How to move forward now after all of that?
Bigger and and bigger challenges. Teachers are not that great of help. Closing everything has become the best thing to since Thursday to meet with the elementary kids on Friday. A meeting has been scheduled on the 9th of February with the elementary kids and their parents. Another meeting has been scheduled on the 10th of February(my birthday) with the high school kids and parents. A prayer meeting from 6 am to 1 pm on Friday, the 12th of February with church members, all school children from K thru 13th and another high school teacher meeting is on Saturday the 13th of February. We would hate to see any other kids like Celondieu Jean-Baptiste, Jameson Fils-Aime, One-Pierre Saint-Louis, Emanie Alexandre, Ernest Mondelus, Jean-Wal Orelus, Sylfira Desalus, Belavois Estalien and many others to be so much at risk like that. So, are we going to start back on the 15th of February? We are still very pessimistic about that and the meetings to come will determine. Please and please again, Keep Praying Harder and harder for wisdom and physical strength for us down here.
So, what is OFCB doing as a spiritual and social work in the community of Bayonnais?
Well, it seems obvious that OFCB is trying to bloom where it is planted. More and more survivors are being visited either at health care centers in Gonaives or in private homes with kits of FOOD and kits of TOILETRY, with big bags of 24 or 50 smaller bags of WATER in them and with some CASH, 1000 gourdes as the minimum.( LOSING YOUR BELONGINGS does not LOSING YOUR DIGNITY as human beings). OFCB has been very busy with refugees from Port-Au-Prince that have moved back home to Bayonnais also with kits of FOOD and money. In Bayonnais, one other very important thing we should let you know about is the case of those who were in school in PAP and now they are in our sphere. At least 15 students have come to attend our school in Cathor,Bayonnais.
Because of the Earthquake, the makeup national exams which should have taken place in April 2010 are no longer an option, and therefore, all of those who failed the last national exams in a August 2009 are required to go back to school. So, our 12th grade class which contained 70 students has shifted to 90's going to 100 students. Should we split it into 50/50? We can not get there yet and, in Haiti space is always empty. There are always some more seats avalaible.
Vital, Moise, Firmin, Yolande, Amilor, Wallace, Saingela, Willienne and Genaise are very busy buying Rice, Water, Cheese, Beans, Laundry Soap, Bar of Soap, Sugar, Cooking Oil, Bleach, Tooth Paste, Tooth Brushes, Kotex ande much more to help Victims to smile and to remind them that God cares for them. A bus of goods has just arrived from Gonaives and tomorrow, market day in L'Estere, Rice and Sugar will be bought and on Friday we will start distributing again.
Well, it seems that all the attention has been given the Victims from Port-Au-Prince only, which may been seen as a prejudice to the teachers and other emplyees at OFCB.
As we are closing this, we think it is healthy and very decent to express our gratitude to all of our brothers and sisters all over the US who have been working very diligently day in and day out since the 12th of January, to minister to so many Haitians,Victims from Earthquake in Haiti, where at least 212,000 have been found and buried by the Haitian government. God's ministery has been become stronger and more souls and spirits have been touched with the demonstration of the Love of Jesus Chist. The funds you have sent are being used for the right cause or purpose in Bayonnais and in Gonaives.
Please, those who (Like Mr.David Nichols) understand my broken English, make this sound like English and let others know what we think, how we are doing and what we are doing in Bayonnais
